A great view of the Mogollon Rim
The Mogollon Rim is a rugged escarpment that forms the southern limit of the Colorado Plateau. It extends across the entire forest and provides excellent views within Plateau Country and Desert Canyon Country as well. Dropping as much as 2,000 feet in some areas, the Rim provides some of the most far-reaching scenery in Arizona.
The Shoofly Indian Ruins
The Shoofly Indian Ruins were believed to have been occupied
between A.D. 1000-1250. At an elevation of 5,240 feet, Shoofly Village once had a total of 79 structures of which the rock outlines, once the base of the walls, are still visible. At the center of this site is where a larger structure once existed, believed to have been a building with 26 rooms averaging 37.4 square meters each, and part of this structure was perhaps two stories high.

Make a right turn at this intersection onto Washington road. This will be the last turn required before reaching the purple agate site.
The steep hill at the Purple Agate site.
This is the steep hill that must be climbed in order to reach the best material. There are horned coral fossils located on the hill to the left. Digging at the top of the Hill has often produced prize specimens.
